Chairwoman Schafer’s comment was particularly telling, in terms of the Board’s overall lack of care and concern for the teachers they are supposed to represent and help: “It’s not like we were looking for 12 per cent.” She then claimed that the process and policy (of voting for a raise) couldn’t be stopped, “because there’s labour activity.” The optics on this were TERRIBLE, but obviously they didn’t care.
Trustee Wilson seconded the opinion, saying that “while it might have been possible to push the decision into the fall, there was no real need to do so.”
